Chilly weather often keeps you indoors, especially when you are caring for an aging loved one. This year, instead of letting ‘cabin fever’ sink in, consider getting everyone out of the house for some fall fun!
If you are worried about how your elderly loved one will stay warm, check out a few of our favorite fall fashion tips!
Layers. The key to dressing appropriately for cooler weather is layers of clothing. Make the inner layer a fabric that wicks away moisture to stay dry. The outer layer should be a water and/or wind resistant material.
Stay Hydrated. You can sweat in colder weather just as you do in the summer. It’s important to drink water to replenish the body. If you bring hot tea or hot chocolate in a thermos you get the added benefit of a hot drink to help warm you up!
Harness the Sun. When possible, try to remain in the sunnier areas outside. Beware: even on cold days you can still get sunburn so don’t forget the sunscreen. If there is snow on the ground sunscreen becomes more important because the snow will reflect the UV rays back up again.
